I got this Lean Gourmet dinner on sale, I think it was under a buck- blech! It boasted angel hair pasta in white whine sauce with shrimp, tomatoes and carrots. It was extreemly bland, the texture of the noodles was okay but there were very few veggies. I guess for a buck or less I shouldnt have expected much. I definatly wont buy it again. It was low fat though, cant deny it ,220 calories and 2.5 calories (~10% calories from fat)
My husband insisted that he needed some ice cream…he almost killed me when he put some reeses peanut butter ice cream in our cart. I veto’d that and he chose something less tempting for me and suggested I pick a ‘light’ ice cream. I looked around a bit, havent been in the ice cream isle in a long time actually….I found one that was fat free! Actually a couple, but the one I settled on was Breyers fat free french chocolate. Half a cup is 90 calories and has 0 grams of fat! Its actually really good. I didnt have super high expectations, I did the low carb thing way back before it got really popular and remember the horrible ‘low carb’ ice cream they had out at the time. I was really impressed with this. It has a nice smooth creamy texture and a great chocolatey taste. I measured out exactly the serving size and it was pretty satisfying. Im the type who can sit down and polish off a disgusting amount of ice cream so either Ive changed a ton in the past months or this is just a really good ice cream. Next Ill be in search of a good fat free strawberry ice cream. Yum!
YUM! Did you know Angel Food Cake is fat free? I hadnt had it in ages but it was served as part of strawberry shortcake at a friends house the other day. Angel food cake with strawberries and fat free whipped topping- it was SO good! What a nice summer treat to be able to indulge in occasionally!
My husband loves these meals in a box, they are pretty simple to make too, not the most healthy meal you will ever have, but I tweek this to make it a bit more healthy.
As it stands Banquet Homestyle Bakes Beef Chili with beans & cornbread has 360 calories per serving with 10 grams of fat- which makes up 25% fat from calories. Each box states it contains 4.5 servings. It takes between 32-36 minutes if its made exactly per the directions. Open the two cans of chili, put in a pan, add 3/4s cup of water to the cornbread mix, stir and spoon on top of the chili and bake. But I cant leave well enough alone, when I open the two cans of chili I also open one can of corn and one can of black beans, I drain off the corn and the black beans and mix them into the chili, then I add a bit more than 3/4s of a cup of water to the cornbread mix to make it spread just a little further. And I bake this for 40 minutes.
With my additions the entire batch has 2260 calories and 50.25 grams of fat which means it has dropped to 20% calories from fat! This now feeds a lot more than 4 people now, I can generally get two meals out of this for my entire family.
We headed to Wendy’s for a quick lunch the other day. Beforehand I scanned the nutritional information they had online and was slightly surprised with my selection of foods under 20% calories from fat.
First of all their frosty is about 22% calories from fat. Im not a huge frosty fan so I passed on it. The next item I saw that was low fat was their plain baked potatoe, 17% calories from fat but that didnt really scream YUMMY to me. Their plain side salad has no fat and their baked lays potatoe chips are only 13% calories from fat. They also have mandrine oranges that are fat free and low fat strawberry yogurt that is only 9% calories from fat! The only sandwhich they had that was under 20% calories from fat was their ultimate chicken grill sandwhich. It was okay, it comes with this honey mustard sauce that was just ‘meh’. But the chicken was very nicely seasoned! I definatly would get this again, but go without the sauce.
