Today I had my regular training run. 5 minute warm up 45 minutes of running 4 minutes walking 1 minute. I was about a half an hour into my run walk when I came down a very busy street where I had met a female pitbull on my past two runs that took me down that street. I was watching for her and saw her, laying in her unfenced yard about 5 feet from a man working on his jeep. I thought ‘hmm good! her owner is right there’ I definatly got a false sense of security from that! I did slow to a walk as I came up on them, I know better than to run past an unrestrained dog. But she came after me anyway. I faced her as she circled me, She came closer and closer. Her owner was calling for her and came after her. I crossed the street trying to get away from her and she just kept on following and circling. Two more people came out of the house and were yelling for her. One man came after her trying to grab her. I had my mace unlocked and pointed at her but I that was my last resort. Macing someones dog with them there doesnt rank high on my to do list you know? Finally she backed off with the help of her owner and I walked on watching over my shoulder. I crossed the street back so I would be facing oncoming traffic. After several houses I decided to run again. My heart rate monitor was reading in the 160’s still so I took it slow. But after a few seconds I heard something and looked over my shoulder to see the dog racing back to me. I unlocked my mace again and pointed it and faced the dog. She came circling again. I was so mad and scared. This dog did NOT listen or respond to the yells of its owner. The lady who came out of the house yelled ’she wont bite, just turn around and walk away’ I was like Lady you are kidding. Yah she wont bite….till I give her a clear shot at me. I was so not thrilled. Finally one of the people came and had to physically remove her. It put a real damper on my fantastic run. Up until that point I had felt strong and fast. My feet felt like the were floating over the pavement. It was beautiful out, a bit windy, the sun was setting and I felt powerful. I am definatly feeling the difference with the Susan Powter way of eating low fat high quality high quantity food has definatly given me more power, more energy and has made me feel fantastic and strong on my runs. Low carb or low calorie will never be an option for me again!
